Bible Verse of the Week 23
It's that time of the week again! Here's the bible verse for this week:
"'Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?'" (Matthew 6:25 NIV)
I don't know about you, but I definitely can say that this is an area that I need to work on.

Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: 'It is mine to avenge; I will repay.' says the Lord." (Romans 12:17-19 NIV version)

Fall Is Beautiful ...
I took these pictures earlier today. These are supposed to be pictures of the changing colors, but they did not come out as I had hoped. But anyhow, isn't God's creation wonderful and majestic?

Bible Verse of the Week 14
It's that time of the week again. Here's this week's bible verse:
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified." (Romans 8:28-30 NIV Version)

Went to a Forum ...
On Thursday evening I went to a question - and - answer forum called "Why do Catholics?," which was a forum where people could ask questions about why Catholics believe or do something. I decided to go to this forum because I was raised as a Protestant, and I did not know much about Catholicism. I wanted to learn about Catholicism, so that I had better understanding of it.
While I was sitting and listening to the speakers, I realized just how narrow-minded I am at times. I later realized that I must have thought that I had God neatly pegged into a hole. And that is wrong. God is infinitely more than I can imagine, and I think he used this forum to point out my errors. (It does take a lot of courage to write that. Sometimes we don't want to admit when we are wrong.)
So, as you can imagine, I came away from the forum with a profoundly different view of myself and how wrong I was.

Today, I changed the name of this blog from Jessica's Conservative Christian Views to Jessica's Christian Views. I feel as though I shouldn't be mixing religion and politics together, so I'll just create another blog where I'll post my political opinions.

Iranian President to Speak at Columbia University
The Iranian president is suppose to speak at Columbia University tomorrow. I'm disgusted, and I believe letting him speak at the university is a mistake. I would not be surprised if he was not challenged while he gives his speech; I'm afraid that people will be more polite to him than to a conservative speaker.

Bible Verse of the Week 8
It's that time of the week again. Hopefully, I will be able to start posting these verses on Sundays, starting this Sunday. Here's the verse:
"'Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.'" (NIV John 14:1-2)
Personally, I think this a good verse to keep in mind, especially in times of fear, worry or stress.

Verse of the Week 6
I realize I haven't posted any bible verses for the last two weeks, but here it is now:
"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." Psalm 100: 1-5 (NIV version)

Verse of the Week 4
Yes, it's that time of the week. Well, sort of; I'm late in posting it this week. Either way, here is the verse:

Verse of the Week 3
It's that time again! Here's the verse for the week:
"What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God's faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: 'So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.'" Romans 3:3-4 (NIV version)

My thoughts on this week
I didn't post anything earlier in the week about the murders at Virginia Tech because I was busy with school work, but I was horriffied by what happened. I personally believe that the media should not have showed any of the photos or videos created by the killer. I truly feel that putting his words out there was disrespectful to the victims and their families and that it was giving the killer one more chance to hurt his victims. Also, airing material like that will only encourage other deranged people to do the same as he did. Anyhow, that is all I am going to say on that matter.
Virginia Tech Tragedy
I just wanted to offer my deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and to the students injured. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Another Bible Verse
Since it is Sunday, I have decieded to post to another bible verse. Well, actually, a whole Psalm. It's a very short one; in fact, it's the shortest one I have read.
Anyway, here it is:
"Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love towards us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord." Psalm 117:1-2 (NIV version)
As I stated, Psalm 117 is short; it is only two verses, but it is a very good psalm to read.

The Hostage Situation in Iran
Please pray for the 15 British sailors that are being held in Iran and for their families. Also, please pray that the Iranian government will have a change of heart and release the sailors.
My Opinion on the Situation
I have some doubts over the Iranian government's version of why they captured the sailors. Granted, I don't know exactly what happened, but I believe that there is more to this situation than the supposed trespassing of Iranian territorial waters. Lately, there has been strained relations between Iran and western countries, and I believe the tensions over the Iranian nuclear program played a part in what has happened. I could be wrong. I'm not an expert on this situation.
Most of my suspscions have been deduced from listening to the Fox News Channel and reading newspaper articles on the web. I'm also quite distrubed by the thought that the Iranian government might put those sailors on trial. The second of the two articles posted below is about that possiblity. (Granted, at any time news articles can get the facts wrong.)
